Geckos are a type of lizard with sticky feet which walks on walls and ceilings. When growing up in Indonesia there were lots of geckos running around our houses, and they would make a sound when they weren't eating bugs. On Sumatra where I lived, they were called "cicak" (pronounced chee-chalk) because of the sound they made. In other areas they were called "gekok" because they made a deeper sound most likely due to their larger size. That is where the word "gecko" comes from.
